Awareness Partners ​

​Within one hundred miles of where you now sit reading this there is likely a child who due to a terminal illness or life-limiting disease will never realize their dream.  That dream may be to one day hear a mighty bull elk bugle, feel the pull of a fighting salmon or simply hear the quiet mournful sound of a loon.  Right now that child may be sitting and wondering why they never had that chance, the chance to live their outdoor wish.

That child and that child’s dream is why you’ve received this letter.  You’ve received it because we need your help to find that child before it’s too late. You’ve received it in the hope that together we can make that dream come true for them.  You’ve received this letter because no sick or dying child should ever have to settle for second best on their Outdoor Wish.

This isn’t about money, equipment or donated hunts and trips its about one simple thing, awareness or rather a lack of it.  That’s right a lack of awareness is the biggest enemy these kids face as their time to quickly passes.  It’s about the help to realize their dream that’s out there for them yet they do not know.  It’s about your help bringing a light to shine on these kids and bringing a smile to their face as they realize their dream.  It’s about a smile that can belong to you.

Benefit4Kids “Outdoor Wish Program” is there for these kids but spreading the word alone can be a slow and costly process.  Our “Outdoor Wish Program” is set up to help terminally ill and life-limited kids realize their outdoor dream whether it’s hunting, fishing, camping, wilderness horseback riding or any other of our wonderful outdoor activities.  Benefit4Kids needs your help to help these kids and we’re hoping you will join us in a partnership of sorts to bring awareness of our programs to these kids. 

We’d like you to consider naming Benefit4Kids your “Officially Recognized Outdoor Wish Granting Program”.  With that recognition if approved, we simply need from you a ¼ page spot in your regularly published magazine, newsletter and/or even your website.  This spot is for awareness only and will never be an advertisement nor will it ever request donations of any kind from anyone.  It will simply be a place to make more and more people aware of the programs we offer to these special kids.

What will it cost for you to make Benefit4Kids your “Officially Recognized Outdoor Wish Granting Program”?  It will cost you nothing, not one thin dime but it will buy you more than you could ever imagine.  That ¼ page spot will buy you the knowledge that you have helped a sick or dying child realize their dream.  It will buy for you a child’s smile and a family’s memories that will last them a lifetime.  It will purchase for you awareness in the non-outdoor community that outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen do more than just hunt and fish, they also work to help others.  This is something we’ve always known that is talked about far too little outside our own community.

​Wild Dawn

Imagine if you would the spectacular radiance of dawn appearing above the tree line, the fresh morning sun radiating across the lake and the mournful cry of the loon echoing in the distance.  These are but a few of nature's treasures out of the reach of many special children today.  Our Wild Dawn program has been set up to help send specially challenged children to a variety of camps specifically designed to handle their special needs.  These camps offer not only a chance for learning and experiencing the great outdoors, but help create a feeling of normalcy and camaraderie in an otherwise isolated time.  Instructors at these camps are experienced in medical procedures necessary to work with these children.  They are also experienced in archery, camping, outdoor cooking, hiking, nature and many other facets of outdoor activities.  In working with these and several other children’s camps Benefit4Kids will continue to assist many less fortunate children enjoy our great outdoors and help them to learn the morals and family values that are so often lacking today.

​B4K Needs Physical Support

Well, the fact of the matter is that the B4K organization is an entity unlike many other organizations. There is no membership population to rely on. We have put a lot of pride in being a 100% volunteer organization. This allows for the MAXIMUM return on investment when pretty close to 100% of every dollar donated goes DIRECTLY TO THE KIDS!

​We are different in many ways from other organizations. As an example we don't have club members to assign tasks to and require event attendance as part of their membership dues. We rely solely on our past/current board of directors.

Life changes happen to everyone. The same can be said for those currently involved with B4K. Events in career, health, & relationships sometimes have to take precedence in a person's life. Please don't misunderstand us here, we are all in it for the long haul. We need new members to teach and mentor, to help "carry the torch" so to speak.
 
Think about this for a moment. With the unfortunate loss of their youngest child, our founding president along with his wife searched their broken hearts in an effort to help ease the pain with the loss of their daughter Amy. You see, Amy was a bright, loving, passionate, heart warming person that put a smile on the face of pretty much anyone she made contact with. She was very outgoing and always loved to assist or help anyone in any way she possibly could. Amy had a passion for the outdoors that was infectious. It was never to cold, to windy, to early or to late to strap on a pair of boots and head outdoors!
 
Steve and April found that there may be no better way to honor Amy than to pass on her passion for people and the outdoors. What better way than to put a smile on a deserving face and use the great outdoors to do it. They decided to put on a small little event to try to raise a few bucks for a deserving child in honor of "Amy Sue Daisy Pray", by using her favorite outdoor activity. The Prays decided to throw a benefit archery shoot and outdoor auction to accomplish that task. 
 
Who would have thought that the "1st Annual Amy Pray Memorial Shoot" held in 1998 would springboard "Benefit4Kids" to what it is today, now 20 years later. Benefit4Kids and it's supporters have helped hundreds of deserving kids, possibly 1000's of deserving family members to enjoy what Amy held dear, a smile with a breath of fresh air!
 
Together with generous donors and supporters, like you, we have been able to honor Amy in a way that we know would make her proud. And we as a small group of board members are very proud of everything B4K stands for and know we couldn't have done it without YOU!
 
So, what is this all about? It is about longevity, the love for the organization and for what it is and to keep it a 100% Volunteer Organization. We are a very small group internally here at Benefit4Kids. Most of us have been involved since it's beginning. We carried the burden proudly over the years and will do so until we can do no more. But we, as a board want this organization to grow. We want to reach more children because we have seen the effect a smile has on a child. We felt the energy a sick body achieves when it it can enjoy a peaceful moment in time. We want this to carry on, but it will not be able to if we don't get more people on board, so we can continue to utilize every penny for the kids and their families. It is very possible that if we are not able to bring a few more members on board, that we may have to hire an employee to help with not only growing, but merely sustaining the organization.
 
We need physical support. We need an active volunteer group led by an active Board of Directors. We are looking for able bodies and minds interested in helping support the efforts and mission of Benefit4Kids. Being involved can easily begin with attending one of our board meetings. We have at least 1 -2 physical board meetings a year along with several board meetings via Web Meeting and/or  phone conference. After attending, you may see where you can help.
 
We know people are out there. Good people with big hearts. We know, because we have seen you in action. We are pointing a finger directly at you with this newsletter! Yes, you. You with the tear in your eye and swollen heart when you see a child dealing with an issue beyond their control. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to help ease the pain? You can. We have events you can offer up your physical labor for a day. We have committees you can help with by leading efforts, like stuffing B4K promo bags for hand-outs we use a sport shows and events. You may also be that person that is needed to fill that empty chair at our board meetings as a board of director member.

Matthew 6:34  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

​Sammi Morrow Memorial Grant 

​Recently Benefit4Kids lost our dear friend and supporter Sammi Morrow to cancer. Sammi was a big part of Benefit4Kids and had been with us since Benefit4Kids was founded helping out in many ways. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten by those of us who knew Sammi.The Board of Directors of Benefit4Kids would like to announce at this time the addition of the Sammi Morrow Memorial Grant designated specifically for camps working with children suffering from the disease that took Sammi from us. Our board has decided that each year $1000 will be set aside to assist these camps where needed. These funds will be over and above any funds already set aside for children's camps we currently work with.

If you are aware of a children's camp that works specifically with children suffering from any type of cancer please have them contact Benefit4Kids for more information on this program.

​Council of Hearts 

As with any non-profit organization, Benefit4Kids is in need of volunteers to help us with the many children we work with along with the many fundraisers, shows and events we attend. Many people do not realize that your time is most often the most valuable donation you can give to an organization like Benefit4Kids. The Board of Directors (BOD) of Benefit4Kids has implemented a new program to help build our base of volunteers.  It is our hope that with your help our Council of Hearts will grow to include volunteers in every state and from all walks of life.
 
The Council of Hearts will enable Benefit4Kids to reach out to many more children and assist us in making others aware of the programs Benefit4Kids has to offer. The idea behind our Council of Hearts members is to have a database of volunteers we can call on for help if we need it in their area. It may be something as simple as handing out flyers at an event or contacting doctors, hospitals, etc. in your area to let them know about our programs and what we do. It may be helping us set up at an event we're attending or contacting outfitters you know to try and expand our base of places to send Outdoor Wish kids. As with everything we do it's 100% volunteer on your part and there are no specific requirements other than helping out if you get the chance. Should you decide to join our Council of Hearts simply fill out the application below and send it to the address at the bottom of the form. You'll then be added to our database and contacted when help is needed.  If you are able to help at that time just let them know what you are available to do and when and they'll schedule you in. If for any reason you are unable to help at that time no problem, you'll stay in our database and be contacted the next time you may be needed.
